CIT Guide for Content Managers

CIT Guide for Content Managers

Below is a high-level outline of the items included in the Web Accessibility Conformance Guide for Content Managers from CIT.  The document covers all of the web accessibility issues that content editors are responsible for ensuring are handled correctly on their sites.

  • Replace or provide accessible PDFs where necessary
  • Manually check other documents for accessibility (i.,e., Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents)
  • Embedded videos: Transcripts, Captions, and Audio Descriptions
  • Images: Alternative Text
  • Broken links need to be resolved
  • Identical link text should not be used to go to different locations
  • Generic link text should be avoided (i.e., don't use "Click here" or "Learn more"; don't use the URL itself)
  • Tables are used for layout purposes in an inaccessible manner or they use inline styles
  • Content needs proofreading/misspellings
  • Headings not used correctly

If you don't have all of these elements on your website (i.e. video, tables, PDFs), you don't need to worry about those points.  Take a look at The Basics page for the minimum that everyone should know.
